een appointed as the Chairperson of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) constituted to examine the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026.

The appointment comes after the Lok Sabha referred the proposed legislation to a Joint Parliamentary Committee for detailed examination.

The FCRA Amendment Bill seeks to introduce changes in the existing framework governing foreign contributions received by individuals and organisations in India. The proposed amendments include provisions relating to the management and disposal of assets created through foreign contributions when an organisation’s FCRA registration ceases to remain valid.

The Bill has attracted considerable political and public discussion, with the government maintaining that the proposed changes are aimed at strengthening transparency and accountability in the management of foreign contributions.

The JPC, under the chairmanship of Sanjay Jaiswal, will now examine the provisions of the Bill and deliberate on various aspects before submitting its recommendations to Parliament.

Jaiswal, a BJP MP from Bihar, has been associated with parliamentary and political affairs and is expected to lead the committee’s detailed examination of the proposed legislation.
